Novak Djokovic does not regret missing Grand Slams due to unvaccinated status | tennis news

LONDON: Novak Djokovic missed two of this year’s four Grand Slams because he was not vaccinated against the new corona virus, but the Serb said he does not regret his decision.
Djokovic won the Australian OpenFrench Open and Wimbledon titles in 2021, but was unable to defend his Melbourne Park crown this year after being deported on the eve of the hard court major due to his unvaccinated status.
The 35-year-old Serb, who has 21 . has won Grand Slam titles, was also unable to travel to New York for the US Open.
Djokovic has not played since winning Wimbledon in July after being forced to sit out the ATP Tour’s North American hard court swing due to his unvaccinated status.
“No, I have no regrets” Djokovic told reporters on Thursday on the eve of the Laver Cup in London. “I mean, I feel sad that I couldn’t play, but you know, that was a decision I made.
“I knew what the consequences will be, so I accepted them. That’s it.”
Waiting to hear from Australia
Djokovic was given a three-year travel ban from Australia when he was deported, but then Prime Minister Scott Morrison said it could be waived to allow him to participate in subsequent editions of the Major.
“I’m waiting for the news,” added the former world number one.
“I really don’t have it in my hands right now. I hope I can get positive news soon.”
