The season-closing World Tour Finals, scheduled for December 14-18 in Guangzhou, will feature the top eight players and pairs in each category with a prize pool of $1.5 million, the largest the event has ever offered, according to the BWF.
Secretary General of BWF Thomas Lund said the final was one of the body’s most lucrative tournaments and thanked the Chinese government for the invitation.
“Unfortunately, it was not possible to proceed with plans to host the two tournaments in Changzhou and Fuzhou,” he added, without further explanation.
November’s Hong Kong open had already been canceled for the third year in a row due to the COVID-19 pandemic and complex quarantine measures.
