FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup: Brazil and USA to tie 1-1 | Football news

BHUBANESWAR: Title Candidates Brazil and the USA played a 1-1 draw in a quick Group A match as both teams reached the quarter-final places of the FIFA Women’s Under-17 World Cup here on Friday.
Both goals came in the first half, in the space of four minutes. Nicollette Kiorpes gave USA the lead in the 33rd minute, but Carol restored parity in the 37th minute.
The drawn result meant that both host country India and Morocco, who face each other later in the day, will struggle to stay in the reckoning for a quarter-final spot.
Both Brazil and the US have four points after their respective wins against Morocco and India. India will face Brazil on Monday and the US will face Morocco in the final group matches.
India lost 0-8 to the US on Tuesday, while Brazil defeated Morocco 1-0 on opening day.
It was an even game between Brazil and the US, who had more possession and more shots at the opponent’s goal.
Concacaf champions USA had 57 percent possession and 19 shots, seven of which were on target. Brazil, the South American champion, had 15 shots in the match, four of which were on target.
The South Americans pushed hard for a winning goal in the closing stages of the game, but the American defenders did a great job defending their citadel.
In Margao, African champions Nigeria defeated New Zealand 4-0 in a group B match.
Amina Bello (16th), Miracle Usani (34th), Taiwo Afolabi (75th) and Edidiong Etim (90+5) scored for Nigeria.
This was New Zealand’s second loss in the tournament, as they lost 1-3 to Chile on Tuesday. Nigeria had also lost 1-2 to Germany in their opening match.
