Curlies Restaurant co-owner arrested on bail for dodging questions and submitting fake Covid certificate

The co-owner of Goa’s Curlies restaurant – Edwin Nunes – was arrested for submitting a fake Covid certificate to Anjuna police and evading investigation in the Sonali Phogat death case, reports The Hindustan Times. Nunes was previously out on bail in a narcotics and psychotropic substances (NDPS) case in the death of the BJP leader.

According to the police statement, Nunes was called several times by the Anjuna police in November 2022 for investigative purposes, but he allegedly presented a fake Covid certificate from a private diagnostic lab to evade interrogation. “Anjuna police have again filed an FIR against him for submitting a forged document to the police station,” Deputy Police Commissioner Jivba Dalvi said in a statement. The Hindustan Times.

According to the report, the police also approached the court for bail to be revoked because he violated the terms of the bail.

Edwin Nunes was granted conditional bail by a local court in September against a personal bail of Rs 30,000 and two securities of Rs 15,000 each.

Goa’s Curlies restaurant came into the limelight following the death of Haryana Phogat in August. The restaurant would reportedly be razed to the ground for landscaping violations, but the Supreme Court postponed the demolition on the condition that no commercial activity would take place.

Goa police had said Sonali Phogat had been forcibly drugged by her two associates, who were arrested after being named as accused in the case.

Sonali Phogat was pronounced dead on August 23 at St. Anthony Hospital in Anjuna in North Goa. An autopsy report revealed blunt force on her body, after which Goa police registered a murder case.

The Central Investigation Agency took over the investigation into the death of the BJP leader following a request from Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to Goa CM Pramod Sawant in August.
