Jharkhand CM Soren asks for 3 weeks to appear for ED; Tejashwi Slams Centre, says he will fight until 2024

The ruling UPA government in Jharkhand slammed the center after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Prime Minister Hemant Soren for questioning in an alleged illegal mining case on Thursday. CM Soren has now requested 3 weeks to appear before the emergency room.

The ED had subpoenaed Soren, also the executive president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), to visit the central agency office here for questioning about the case on November 3 at 11 a.m. in a money laundering case related to alleged illegal mining in the stands for recording its statement under the Money Laundering Prevention Act (PMLA).

However, he did not go there and went to Chhattisgarh in the evening to attend a “pre-planned” tribal program. Soren claimed that the BJP used central agencies to humiliate non-BJP-ruled states because they could not achieve political success against those in power.

According to JMM sources, the leaders of the ruling alliance decided to provide an “appropriate response” to the BJP-led Center through the protest. The UPA’s alleged attempts to destabilize a democratically elected government are being made by abusing central agencies.

The coalition leaders will sit on dharna today in all district headquarters of the state to tell people that efforts are being made to disrupt the outreach programs launched by the government of Jharkhand for their well-being.

Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav on Friday furious at the ED subpoena to Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, whose JMM is a senior alliance partner of his RJD in the neighboring state.

Referring indirectly to an alleged political vendetta against opponents of the BJP, Yadav said such actions by investigative agencies were likely until the Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

“All that stuff goes on until 2024. Nothing comes out unless someone has done something wrong. And we will continue to fight vigorously,” said the RJD leader, who is himself facing a money laundering case in the IRCTC country for hotel scams related to his father Lalu Prasad’s tenure as Minister of Railways.

The BJP meanwhile denounced Soren’s government for corruption in the state and advised him to respect the legal process.
