‘Not just a BJP symbol’, Rajnath Singh criticizes those who criticize Lotus in India’s G20 presidency logo

Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh criticized the inclusion of the lotus flower in the logo of India’s G20 presidency on Sunday. He pointed out that lotus is not only the logo of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) but also the national flower, as declared in 1950. “People say it is a BJP symbol. There is a limit! Lotus was declared a national flower in 1950 because it is the cultural symbol of India,” he said.

The defense minister further added that during the 1857 uprising, freedom fighters fought with a roti in one hand and a lotus in the other. Without mentioning the Congress, Singh attacked the big old party for creating the unnecessary controversy.

Notably, Congress has accused the BJP of promoting its poll symbol, while the ruling party has alleged that its rival was denigrating India’s national flower.

Rajnath Singh addressed a rally after the unveiling of the statue of legendary warrior Prithviraj Chauhan in Haryana’s Jhajjar. At the meeting, he also claimed that the BJP’s main focus is on protecting India’s interests and that anyone who is watching India evil will receive an appropriate response.

“India is no longer weak. We believe in peace,” Singh said. Our soldiers have proven this time and again, Singh said, referring to the 2016 surgical strikes and the 2019 Balakot airstrikes.

More than 1,500 archaic laws from British rule, whose relevance was completely over, have been abolished. There are many such laws that we are preparing a settlement for, he said. We are also deleting those, according to the minister.
