Shafiqur Rahman Barq, the leader of the BJP, claimed on Sunday that they are divisive, such as the Uniform Civil Code to take advantage of the 2024 general election.
The Sambhal MP, not mentioning the BJP, also said they will barely win 50 seats this time because the opposition will fight unitedly.
“They (BJP) call a mosque a temple and raise issues like the Uniform Civil Code which is of hatred and does not unite the hearts… Since the elections of 2024 are there, they are doing it so that all Hindus associate with it in the name of Hindu-Muslim hatred,” Barq said.
The 92-year-old told reporters that all Hindus are not bad. “The one in Congress who undertakes the Bharat Jodo Yatra (apparently referring to Congressman Rahul Gandhi). Isn’t Sharad Pawar a Hindu? Isn’t Akhilesh Yadav a Hindu?” he said.
They (the BJP) want Hindus with ties to other parties to participate in the 2024 polls, Barq said. Asked about disputes between temples and mosques, the Samajwadi party MP said: “They see a temple in every mosque. Muslims are not so weak that they will allow their mosques to be turned into temples.” He apparently referred to the Gyanvapi Mosque-Shringar Gauri case of Varanasi and the Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Masjid case of Mathura: “It is our mosque and the responsibility to guard (it) is that of our community. It must be be protected because it is dearer to us than our life.We must answer to Allah after we die, if there is injustice to it (mosque),” the MP said.
