AAP promises cow shelters, stray dog adoption campaign, monkey rehabilitation

New Delhi: Setting up shelters for cows, campaigning for the adoption of street dogs, rehabilitating monkeys in their natural habitat – are some of the steps the AAP wants to take as they take power in the MCD.

Arvind Kejriwal, the national organizer of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), had earlier this month launched the party’s 10 guarantees for the December 4 MCD polls and one of them related to liberating the streets of Delhi from the threat from strays.

Speaking of the roadmap for that, the party’s chief spokesperson, Saurabh Bhardwaj, said on Thursday that they will be launching a “Be Indian, Adopt Indian” campaign for the adoption of Indian dog breeds.

“We will encourage NGOs to adopt stray dogs and we will fund the costs of raising those dogs. Individuals will also be encouraged to come forward and adopt Indian breeds,” he said at a press conference.

The Greater Kailash MLA said monkey threat is another big problem.

“In almost all parts of South Delhi, people are bothered by monkeys, who enter water tanks to take a bath, enter the houses, open the refrigerator and take food items and even attack small children. We will ensure that they are rehabilitated in their natural habitat when we come to power in the MCD. One of those natural habitats is in Asola,” he said.

He then spoke about how often free-roaming cows are seen around rubbish dumps.

‘Their place is not there. They should be fed green fodder and for that we will set up gowshalas with modern technology so that they are taken care of,” he said.

Bhardwaj was also questioned on Thursday about the interrogation party MLA Akhilesh Pati Tripathi of the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) in connection with the bribery case.

“The ACB should conduct a neutral investigation. The guilty should not be spared,” he said.

On Tuesday, ACB arrested Tripathi’s brother-in-law and his two associates for allegedly demanding Rs 90 lakh as a bribe for giving a ticket to the wife of an AAP employee in the citizens’ polls.

A senior ACB official said that AAP MLA Tripathi was summoned by the department. He was requested to appear at 11 a.m. and he has joined the investigation today and is being questioned.
