AAP Trade Wing issues separate manifesto for MCD polls

The trade wing of the AAP will issue a separate manifesto for upcoming citizen polls. It will also hold 100 meetings with traders ahead of the high-stakes election.

The 250 ward Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will go to the polls on December 4 and the counting of votes will take place on December 7.

Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal had launched the party’s 10 guarantees for the citizens’ polls earlier this month. One of the guarantees was an insurance policy to end the “inspector raj” and provide other benefits to traders. The party had also said it had fielded more than 30 business leaders in the polls.

In a statement, the party’s trade arm said the manifesto would also address issues faced by women traders.

It will also hold more than 100 meetings at Delhi markets in the next 15 days, it said.

Brijesh Goyal, AAP’s trade wing consultant, and President Subhash Khandelwal said these would be small gatherings.

Efforts will be made to improve communication with traders. There will be two to five meetings in each market, she added.

“We go to markets like Khari Baoli, Naya Bazar, Bhagirath Palace, Sadar Bazar, Chawri Bazar, Kashmere Gate, Karol Bagh, Kamla Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Lajpat Nagar, Connaught Place, Nehru Place, Rohini, Shahdara and Pitampura,” said the explanation.

The trade wing said the party planned to get rid of the “inspector raj”, beautify the markets, ensure a permanent and practical solution to the parking problem, repair the broken roads and reduce conversion and parking fees to purchase.

There are also plans to open sealed stores and make licensing simple and online.

Goyal said the trading wing would issue a separate manifesto for traders and based on their interactions with the business community.

This time there is a 50 percent participation of women in the corporate elections, the trade wing statement said.

Women traders have their own issues, it said, adding that separate meetings would be held with them and their suggestions would be included in the manifesto.
