Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) candidate Madan Bhaiya submitted his nomination papers for the December 5 Khatauli assembly poll in the district here on Wednesday.
Madan Bhaiya, who was declared the RLD-Samajwadi Party alliance candidate on Sunday, arrived at the Collectorate accompanied by leaders from both parties to submit his papers.
Speaking to journalists, Madan Bhaiya said he will contest the bypoll on issues related to farmers, including sugar cane growers, minorities and unemployment.
He claimed that the BJP is trying to divert the public’s attention from key issues such as unemployment, price increases of essential commodities and farmers’ problems, among others.
Earlier on Sunday, Madan Bhaiya’s candidacy was announced on Rashtriya Lok Dal@RLDparty, the official Twitter account of the RLD.
The Khatauli bypoll was necessary following the disqualification of incumbent BJP MLA Vikram Saini from the Uttar Pradesh Assembly after he was handed a two-year prison sentence by a court in a case related to the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots.
The BJP has named Rajkumari Saini, wife of Vikram Saini, from Khatauli seat.
