The horror comedy genre has been largely successful at the box office, be it Stree or the more recent Kartik Aaryan starrer blockbuster Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Phone Bhoot performed poorly on opening day.
According to Pinkvilla, the film has hit Katrina Kaif, Ishaan Khatter and Siddhant Chaturvedi somewhere between Rs 1.75 cr-Rs 2.25 crore. Despite the release of no less than 1400 screens, Gurmmeet Singh’s directing failed to impress with only 10-12 percent occupancy on the aforementioned screens.
In fact, the film failed to strike a chord with audiences both critically and commercially. The Indian Express’ film critic Shubhra Gupta called the feature “painfully unfunny” and gave it a star in her review of the film.
Phone Bhoot slightly outperforms Janhvi Kapoors Mili and Huma Qureshi-Sonakshi Sinha film Double XL, which together failed to reach even Rs 1 crore at the ticket counter. In fact, if we are to believe the reports, Rishab Shetty’s Kantara performs much better at the box office despite being a dubbed Hindi release.
Come next week, we’ll see a Marvel movie taking the box office by storm. Yes, we are talking about the MCU movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The film is again directed by Ryan Coogler, who directed the first part, starring the late Chadwick Boseman in the lead.
By the end of the month, Ajay Devgn-Tabu’s Drishyam 2 and Varun Dhawan-Kriti Sanon’s Bhediya will hit theaters. Now time will tell if the two aforementioned releases manage to create any Bollywood box office magic, which has been languishing since Brahmastra came out.
